The Words Went Quiet is written for the second kind. It follows a child whose words are there and simply will not come out — in the classroom, in a shop, in front of somebody kind who is waiting patiently for an answer. Nobody in the story tells them to speak up or be brave.

Instead it shows what the quiet feels like from inside, and lets the words come back in their own time, as they generally do when nothing is being demanded of them.
