The Waiting is a story about that stretchy in-between time. It notices how waiting for something lovely and waiting for something frightening can feel oddly similar, and how both make time behave strangely.

Rather than telling children to be patient, it gives them a way of recognising the feeling — which turns out to make it considerably easier to sit inside.
